General description
KCHIP2, also known as Kv channel-interacting protein 2 (KChIP2), or A-type potassium channel modulatory protein 2, or Potassium channel-interacting protein 2, and encoded by the gene Kcnip2/Kchip2, is the regulatory subunit of the Kv4/D Shal-type voltage gated inactivating potassium channel. KCHIP2 modulates the activities of Kv4.2 and Kv4.3 potassium channels. KCHIP2 is localized to the cell membrane but is a peripheral membrane protein. KCHIP2 is expressed in heart, brain and lung. In brain, KCHIP2 is abundantly expressed in striatum, hippocampus, and olfactory bulb, but moderate to low expression is seen in cerebral cortex thalamus and hypothalamus. KCHIP2 has multiple isoforms in the different tissues. Isoform 1 is predominant in cerebral cortex, striatum and hippocampus, and all three isoforms are equally expressed in olfactory bulb, but in heart only isoform 3 predominates.
